A gentler car wash: from pre-rinse to a clean finish

A gentler car wash: from pre-rinse to a clean finish

A good wash is about removing dirt with as little unnecessary contact as possible. A little preparation makes the process more comfortable and helps you avoid dragging grit across the finish.

Start with a cool surface

Park in the shade and let the panels cool down. Read the instructions for your shampoo and sprayer, then prepare separate equipment for the wheels and paintwork. Rinse away loose dirt before you begin.

Use foam as a pre-wash

Apply the dilution recommended by the product manufacturer. Let the foam dwell for the stated time without drying on the surface, then rinse thoroughly. Foam helps loosen dirt; it does not replace a careful contact wash.

Wash one section at a time

  • Work from the roof down, leaving the dirtiest lower panels until last.
  • Use a clean wash mitt and light pressure. Rinse the mitt frequently.
  • Keep wheel brushes and wheel towels separate from paintwork tools.
  • If a mitt falls on the ground, clean it before using it again.

Finish with careful drying

Rinse off all shampoo and use a clean, absorbent microfiber towel. Blot or glide gently rather than scrubbing. Follow the care label when washing your towels, and allow the sprayer and accessories to dry before storage.

A simple kit is enough

A suitable shampoo, foam sprayer, wash mitt and drying towel cover the essentials. Build a repeatable routine first, then add specialist products only when you need them.
